Dinner done in 15 minutes tonight!

on January 2, 2012

Tonight’s dinner was the first meal on our month plan.  We had grilled cheese, tomato soup, and brussels sprouts.   It took a total of 15 minutes to make (including taking the picture!) It’s not the prettiest dinner, and if you’re wondering why we paired brussles sprouts with it…there is no good reason other than it was the first veggie to come to mind.  Here’s the breakdown of the cost, and how we made it (its the world’s easiest dinner so I feel kinda silly typing out how we made it, but oh well!)

We stock up on bread when its on clearance at Kroger for around 70-80 cents and store it in the freezer.  So the bread cost around $0.14 for 4 slices.  The cheese was maybe $2.00 (can’t remember) so about $0.25. Tomato soup was $0.50 at Martins last week.  The brussels sprouts cost $1.68 a bag, and we used about half, so $0.84.  I’m not including the dash of basil, sprinkle of parmesan, or the salt pepper and butter on brussels sprouts because I assume most people have these on hand.

Total for Dinner: $1.73!!!!

To make: Butter toast, add cheese, and grill for the grilled cheeses.  Follow directions on soup, top with basil and Parmesan cheese.  Follow direction on brussels sprouts and add salt, pepper and a bit of butter.

The best part of all this, was dinner was done in 15 minutes and I didn’t even have to think about what I was going to cook tonight!
